In March 2026, the weather in upper Thailand remained cool in the
morning in the first half of the month, with cold weather in some areas of the
northern region. This was due to the influence of high-pressure areas from
China extended its ridge to cover the northeastern region and the South China
Sea. Meanwhile, daytime temperature increased in several areas of upper
Thailand, especially in the second half of the month when generally hot weather
was found with very hot weather in many areas. This was caused by the persisted
of heat-low pressure cell over upper Thailand, along with the prevailing
southerly and southeasterly winds during that period. Rainfall in upper Thailand
occurred on a few days along with reports of thundershower, gusty wind and hail
in many areas. These conditions were influence by the easterly and
southeasterly winds and the passage of the westerly trough through the northern
region. In southern region, rainfall was less, with most rain was found in the
first half of the month due to the prevailing of the easterly and southeasterly
winds over the Gulf of Thailand, southern Thailand, and the Andaman Sea. After
that, wind weakening resulted in isolated rain on some days. Monthly rainfall
was below normal in all regions i.e. northern part 11.8 mm (36%), northeastern
part 28.1 mm (62%), central part 20.9 mm (50%), eastern part 23.4 mm (35%),
southern part (east coast) 59.6 mm (69%) and southern part (west coast 61.9 mm
(60%). Overall, the average total rainfall across Thailand was 30.2 mm (54%)
below normal. Mean temperature of March were close to normal and slightly above
normal in most areas with the average monthly temperature of 0.4°
C above normal. Further details are as follows.
