Subject: Tropical Storm “NONGFA”
and heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand

At 7.00 a.m. LST (30 August 2025), tropical depression over the upper of South China was intensified to tropical storm “NONGFA”. And at 10.00 a.m., it was centered about 100 kilometers east of Quang Binh, Vietnam or at latitude 17.9 degrees north and longitude 107.5 degrees east, with maximum sustained winds near the center at about 65 km/hr. The storm is moving west with a speed of 25 km/hr. This storm is forecast to make landfall over Quang Binh, Vietnam on afternoon, 30 Aug. It is likely to downgrade to tropical depression and will move to upper Laos after that it is forecast to downgrade to an active low-pressure cell and will move through the monsoon trough that lie across over the North and the Northeast of Thailand during 30 - 31 Aug.
This system will bring increased rainfall across Thailand from 30 August - 1 September, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in many areas, accompanied by strong winds in the northeastern region, particularly in the provinces of Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Bung Kan, Nong Khai, Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, and Chaiyaphum. The northern and upper-central regions will be affected by 31 August, especially in the lower provinces of Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, and Nakhon Sawan. People in the country should beware of heavy to very heavy rain, strong wind and accumulation that may cause flash floods and overflows especially along the waterways near foothills and lowlands.

The southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will strengthen, leading to heavy rainfall in the eastern and western southern regions of Thailand. The rather strong wind forces the waves in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf up to 2-3 meters high and above 3 meters high in thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and keep off thundershowers, small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf should keep ashore and people along the coast of the East and the upper South west coast should beware of storm surge during 30 August - 2 September.
